HISTORY OF THE MONTERIA

A “Monteria” is a driven hunt of wild boar, or deer, and is Spain’s oldest and most traditional form of shooting, recorded as far back as the 14th Century.

DRIVEN BOAR

To participate in a Monteria is very much to re-live the traditions of our ancestors and to experience an ancient and amazing form of hunting.

At Quintanar we have a very special set-up for Wild Boar which is not only very exciting but also very safety-driven.

THE STANDS

There are fourteen stands distributed among the dips and depressions of our unique hunting ground.  The stands are hidden from each other by the topography so guns can shoot freely around them.

Dog handlers and their groups of dogs – “rehalas” – move through the cover, moving the game animals towards the hunters’ positions. The unpredictable reactions of these wild animals ensure great excitement as they can approach the guns from any direction.

NO SEASON

Unlike most other provinces, we can hunt throughout the whole year with no limitation of the season.
